Karnabal Festival 2017

Karnabal

Presented by Sipat Lawin Ensemble in cooperation with The Japan Foundation Asia Center, Karnabal Festival 2017: Performance and Social Innovation is a two-week festival, running from May 10 to 21, 2017, that will highlight the new works of an alternative wave of local performance-makers and international artists in the Philippines through socially-engaged performances.

Karnabal Contemporary Cultural Laboratory, the organizer behind the festival, supports independent and emerging artists by providing them with resources, education and a platform free from the pressures of commercial success, so that these artists can keep creating original and meaningful performances that address the social and cultural issues of our time.

Like a carnival or a traveling caravan, Karnabal Festival 2017’s Metro Manila venue is mobile and multi-site: from studios, to the great outdoors, to coffee shops, a black box theater, the streets, and even inside homes. Click here for more information on the schedule and venue.

Performances are blank-ticketed instead of having fixed rates, as a form of social experiment where audiences determine the amount of what they pay for based on their perceived value of the work while taking into consideration their economic capacity.

For more information on the festival, visit facebook.com/karnabalfestival/ or visit their crowdfunding campaign to make a donation.
